WHAT IS HIERARCHY USED FOR IN THE LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM?The function of hierarchy is to have a representation of a customer’s organizational and/or physical arrangement. A hierarchy is comprised of a single parent node (top-most level) and child nodes. There is no limit to the number of levels that a hierarchy includes. GOALS FOR HIERARCHYAllow an Administrator access to data, segmented by node(s). Enhance the ability to report on workers based on their assignment to different nodes (reports are pending). Assign training/courses to the hierarchy to assign ownership and/or restrict access. Hierarchy is used to manage what each Administrator is able to see and manage. An Administrator would assign a course to a node if they wanted only that node to be able to access the course. LIMITATIONS OF HIERARCHYHierarchy does not filter content that is displayed or assigned to Members. Tags are not assigned to hierarchy nodes. Teams are not assigned to hierarchy nodes, and in fact are not limited by hierarchical assignments. USES OF HIERARCHYHierarchy use is optional - it is a feature that must be activated by a CSM. Can be used for Member reporting (reporting features are pending). Can be used to restrict access to specific content. Can be applied upon initial implementation or at any later time. Groups may be assigned to node(s). ADMIN ACCESS & PERMISSION OPTIONSManaged by Hierarchy AssignmentCeiling Assignment(s) - access to a node and all descendent nodesExplicit Assignment(s) - access to a single node only (no ancestors or descendants)Managed by Admin Role user featuresRead Only - access to view objectsWrite - access to create and fully manage objects, including deactivationUpdate - access to update objects, but not create new objectsAn Administrator may have an Update User feature to Administrators that will allow Password Reset and email update, but they may not create new Administrators. HOME ASSIGNMENTSFor Members: Audience targeting dictates which Administrators have access to Read/Write/View Members. Which Members the Administrator can see will depend on the node(s) which they have access to, through a combination of their Ceiling and Explicit assignments. Administrators with an explicit assignment to the Seattle Node, for example, would gain access to all Members with the home assignment of Seattle. Administrators with a ceiling assignment of the Pacific Northwest (PNW) Node would have access to all nodes under PNW and all Members with home assignments to any PNW nodes. For Administrators: Audience targeting dictates which Administrators have access to Read/Write/View Administrators. Administrators with an explicit assignment to the Seattle Node would gain access to all Administrators with the home assignment of Seattle. Administrators with a ceiling assignment of the Pacific Northwest (PNW) Node would have access to all nodes under PNW and all Administrators with home assignments to any PNW nodes. Members and Administrators may have multiple Home Assignments when necessary, i. e. for a worker that floats between two different plant locations. HIERARCHY OPTIONSNameDetermined by customer, and is unique to the implementation. Single or Multiple CeilingsIf Single ceiling option is enabled, Administrators may only be assigned to a single ceiling. If the Multiple Ceiling option is enabled, Administrators may have multiple ceiling assignments. Node may be Active or InactiveIf a node is inactivated, its assigned Members and Administrators will remain assigned to that node until removed.
